“The Soil Health and Climate Resiliency Act is the first major piece of legislation in New York that paves the way for farmers,” State Senator Michelle Hinchey said, “who are already leading on environmental management, to become a cornerstone of our fight against the climate crisis.
New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard A. Ball announced two grant opportunities totaling $21 million for projects that will help New York’s farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy savings, mitigate water and soil quality concerns, and increase on-farm resiliency to climate change.

The accolade honors a farm and its nominating soil and water conservation district for extraordinary achievement in environmental stewardship. Applications for the New York AEM Leopold Conservation Award must be received by the department by May 1.
It’s official: 158 soil health practitioners earned their Cornell University Advanced Soil Health certificate. Another 50 participated in the course informally.
This first group to earn their certificate represents an amazing international cohort from over 30 countries. They fill a wide range of roles from agronomists to graduate students to urban farmers.
